Oval vodka is smartly using the elections and the coincidence of their name to jump start their vodka in the good ol’ U.S. of A. According to their website, vodka has been made the same way for 600 years… until now! They created a process called “structuring” in which water surrounds the alcohol molecules? Tastings.com had some interesting things to say about it.
The prize is $500 with the company taking submissions until October 25th. On November 1st a panel of “celebrity” judges will pick the “Official Drink Of The Oval Office”… git it!
The submission I whipped together happened in the morning, so it is pretty orangey. I don’t usually drink in the morning, I just got the bug… I swear!
Bote
11/2 oz oval vodka
1/4 oz chartreuse
1/4 oz cointreau
1/4 oz lemon juice
1/4 oz simple syrup
1/8 oz (splash) lillet
Dash orange bitters
Add all into a mixing glass, add ice and stir very well. Strain into cocktail glass and garnish with orange twist if desired.
Most cocktail bloggers don’t like mixing drinks with vodka because it doesn’t add much for a flavor profile. There are some vodka’s out there that are great for certain cocktails but for the most part the only profile vodka adds is the flavor of getting loaded. I think this vodka is pretty good and it has a unique mouth-feel to it. So dig up a bottle and test on your favorite guinea pig customers then submit your recipe directly to their website.
