Moving On Up!

I don’t talk about my personal life much on this site because I feel it’s boring to most people and that’s not what you check this for.  For those of you who have checked my “about me” page will see I have owned The Anchor Pub in Everett Washington since 2006.  Owning a bar is not what people think it is, at least bars where ordering a classic cocktail means receiving a Pabst Blue Ribbon?  If you are not in a downtown core or do not have a unique business model it’s very hard, so my business partner and I sold The Anchor Pub in Everett and I have a new bartending job!!!
For those of you in the Seattle area please stop by Chandlers Crab House in south Lake Union if you want to talk shop.  Working in a fine dining restaurant bar is a perfect place to make great drinks but also spend some time studying ports, whites, reds, and the many other varieties of wine.  Wine is just as important knowledge as any spirit and the knowledge is extensive to say the least.  A wine expert is called a Sommelier (som-el-yay) and it takes time to absorb that much information but having Sommelier credentials will open many, many, many doors for your career.
Bartending can be a very rewarding career if you stick with it and make the right decisions.  Ownership is not for everybody and is so much work for so little reward, at least my first experience with it.  Unless I have the opportunity to run a place similar to Zig Zag or Vessel here in Seattle I will not do it again.  By the way thanks to everyone who checks this site, now that I have a 4 star place in which to work I have some great plans for future posts, so stay tuned!
